One of our favourite releases so far this year, Joakim Bouaziz (a.k.a Jimi Bazzouka) works his magic on what is his third edits only release aptly named Edits Vol.3.
The Frenchman has had a prolific producing career releasing original material and reworks since 2002 while starting up his own record label Tigersushi. Edits Vol.3 was released on Crowdspacer Records, a sub label of Tigersushi.
All three tracks on this release are beefed up edits of unearthed African folk songs. The pick of the three has to be ‘So So Ye’, a deep and soulful re-work of Malian duo Amadou & Mariam’s ‘Se Te Djon Ye’. Bazzkouka has stayed pretty true to the original song adding layers of drums and percussion with a warbling bass line. It all builds up to that special moment when the vocals drop. And boy is it something special. We dropped this at our last party and it went down an absolute treat.
