Wu15 – The Anthem
Emerging as one of the finest producers to come out of London in recent years, Henry Wu’s ability is second to none. He’s definitely become a firm favourite for us with tracks like 117 Careplan featuring in our latest mix BLBC #3.
With soulful synth laden tracks his staple, his upcoming release is sure to impress. With The help of the wicked K15 they have produced something really special. Its soon to be released but we were given the pleasure of an early listen via Gilles Peterson.
And if Peterson digs it…
This is a selection of Trinidadian music, Soca, but not Soca as we know it today.
There is no EDM or contemporary groovy or power in this mix, it is a pre 90’s selection that shows off the Calypso, Soul and Disco side of things.
It shows Trini’s abilities to use a fantastic array of synths and live instrumentation to produce wild and wonderful music that is totally unique.
The records have been collected in Trinidad on various digging trips, and from many enjoyable years living on the beautiful island.
Many thanks to the Rhyner Sisters for their help, support and knowledge.
Skip to ’45 for the HIT.
1989 R&B track ‘My Love Is So Raw’ features the growling vocals of undersung harlem singer Alyson Williams. Picked this up on a dig through a berlin €2 bucket as the B Side to ‘I Need Your Lovin’. I wasn’t sold on the title track, but I had a bit of time and was grooving straight away when I dropped the needle on this souly club banger. She’s now apparently in residence to the King of Morocco… Respect to The Girl!
